This HyperCard stack was designed to help teachers of US geography. It could also be used to supplement other social studies classes.
This stack was developed on a MacPlus and was refined on a Classic II. It runs under both System 6 and System 7. I have included HyperCard 2.1 in the event you don't have the most current version. The stack will not run on 1.x versions of HyperCard. I assume that you use a hard drive, as HyperCard is cumbersome and slow otherwise.
Around The USA is self-explanatory and includes help screens to guide new users. I suggest that you first try it yourself and then let students run it on their own or under your guidance.
Make as many copies as you need for your classroom. This is an evaluation copy and is provided free of charge. Your evaluation of the stack is most important to me. I want to know how you and your students used the program in a normal classroom setting (my previous testing was done with individuals as a guide to developing/refining the program).
Please mail your evaluation to me at your convenience. Tell me something about yourself, your class, how you used the stack, etc. I would appreciate having the evaluation by summer, sooner if possible. I realize that this depends on how you integrate the stack into your curriculum.
Some possible guidelines for the evaluation:
Were you and your students familiar with HyperCard before using Around The USA?
Did you and your students find Around The USA easy to use?
Did you and your students need to frequently refer to the Help screens or could you work on your own?
Did your students work individually or co-operatively with Around The USA?
Are the screen layouts easy to understand and use?
Are the buttons easy to read/use?
Are there any changes that would make the program easier to use?
Would a teacher╒s manual help? (During testing, I found that different people used the stack in different ways. My concern is that a formal manual might discourage ╥creative╙ uses of the stack.)
Any other comments, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated.
Thank you very much for taking your time to use and evaluate this HyperCard stack.
